People from all over the world come to Leader Dog to learn the necessary skills for safe and independent travel with a guide dog or white cane. And while all of our services are free of charge, we receive zero state or federal funding, so your gift truly helps make people unstoppable!
BLINDNESS CHANGES EVERYTHING
Today over 1.3 million people are blind in the U.S. An additional 75,000 will become visually impaired this year. The loss of sight impacts every area of a person's life: relationships, hobbies, work or school, just getting from point A to point B. Yet, only 10% of people who are blind have received training to travel safely using a white cane or guide dog.
To increase awareness of the programs Leader Dog provides to the blind community, and to raise money to support these programs, we’ve established a $5,000 Blindness Awareness Month fundraising goal for October. This amount is equal to the cost of training one person to travel using a white cane.
